Tippmann A-5, Definitely A Good Marker. February 23, 2006 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Okay, I give this gun a Five star because it is a good Marker, considering when you upgrade this baby it become a true baddAss, with a little cost of course, but I gotta say, becareful where you buy this from, my first tippmann a-5 that I ordered here at Amazon, came in all messed up, there was a leak sum where in the gun, trust me its not a common leak you can fix with a new o-ring or all those other trouble shooting S#it that I spend so much time trying to read up, maybe because of poor packing, or maybe a defect I don't know, but I sold that one and got a new one with an E-Grip "Works Great" I shot my trash can from a good destant and it made a hole, "Gotta luv it".
Only 4 Stars??? July 25, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own 2 Tippmann A5's. One is set up for Speed Ball (Yes an A5 can be miraculous in Speedball) and one for recreational Woodsball. The only reason I give it 4 stars over 5 is because to really get the most out of an A5 you are going to have to customize it a bit. Both of my markers have about $500 in to them & IMHO I give up nothing to anyone.
Speedball Marker: Camo A-5 (just for fun), BSA 30mm red dot Sight ($30)stock sights(which are excellent for iron sights) were removed for clean field of view, E-Grip ($115), Assault style 3 Chamber Expansion Chamber (functions as drop forward as well as X-Chamber [$70]), Shorty 6" barrell no porting ($40), Class 1 machine bolt to replace velocity bolt for easier adjustment ($2), Removed Fore Grip (use X-Chamber instead).
Detail:I have it zeroed in at 100 feet tp point of aim with red dot. It is obscenely accurrate at 15 bps and slower within this range and more, but you must compensate for drop past this point (the ball is on the rise prior to this, it is sighted at the apex). I can hose 25 BPS, but usually elect not to.
Unconventional Advantages: Low Profile of hopper compared to anything conventional, no batteries for hopper, very compact in overall size. Suprizingly accurate. No-one thinks this thing has the reach it does. Stand still at 200 feet for 3 seconds and you are done. Period. Only mod left is going to Nitro and I am not interested.
Disadvantages: A bit heavy, Especially compared to Spyders and Angels. Lack of respect because it is "Only a Tippmann".
Rec/Woodsball set-up: 30mm BSA Red Dot Sight ($30) [Again, stock sights removed], Flatline Barrell ($95), Assault X-Chamber (I don't feel that I personally need a stock, and like a truncated [shortened] marker){$70}, Reactive Trigger ($90), Class ! Machine bolt to replace velocity adjuster bolt for ease of adjustment ($2). I left the stock fore grip in place as with the additional mass of the flatline it feels better this way.
Detail: This marker shoots to point of aim out to in excess of 150 feet. Absolute accuracy is not as good as other set-up, but at 100 feet rapid fire groups are less than 8 inches of spread. About 15 BPS with the added bonus unique to the RT of when only 100 shots of air are left it goes to semi auto only. A nice heads up with a goodly safety margin.
Unconventional Advantages: Again, Low Profile, Reasonably compact (less so w/ stock) Only batteries are for sight, and iron sights are fine with this set-up, I just like Red dot sights. Practical fire power. Flat trajectory. What you see is what you get. This is the gun I loan to newbies, they can really concentrate on the game instead of equipment except for the RT.
Disadvantages: Heavy, I sometimes use a coiled remote with the tank in a Fanny pack set-up, but don't like the hassle of the hose. RT not touney legal. RT takes some time to acclimate to. If too difficult, just open up all the way for a better than stock light trigger pull in semiauto only. Seems to use a bit more air.
Tippmann A-5 June 4, 2005 I just got the a-5 for my birthday with out any mods and its still amazing. It's unbelievably accurate for an 8 and a 1/2in. barrel. It can also shoot pretty fast with the cyclone. Im goin for the flatline next.Besides the flatline there are so many sweet mods for your style of play. This is an amazing gun i'd suggest to any paintballer especially for woodsball.

I just purchased a tippmann A-5 and I enjoy it a lot. The cyclone feed system is genius because you will never need to buy an electric hopper that can exceed 100 dollars. The reticle aimer is nice because you always have something to aim with at medium to long distances. You can also take it out if you want a scope. Part of the reason why I decieded to buy this gun over others is because it has hundreds of accessories. There are stocks, like 200 barrels with the A-5 thead to Spyder thread adapter and even bipods. A part of the gun that dissapointed me was the barrel that came with it. It is sometimes inaccurate and the holes in the side make it hard to clean if a ball breaks. The "field strip technology" is a must have because it simply makes maintaining the gun easy as pie! Two more criticisms I have is the Front handle which I think is sort of low quality. It is hollow plastic and they could have at least made an end cap or something. The second thing is the "manual feder advance lever". It has a tube that is flimsy... I guess that would be the answer to why the lever is flimsy too. The "manual feder advance lever" is sort of cheesy, you only press it once every time you reload your balls. Even though some of the gun may seem a little "cheap" in a few of its parts it still preforms extremely well and is easy to use and manuver in the field. I gave it the 5 stars because of the accessories, its user friendly system and its preformance.

Great gun...i love it. The only complait i really have is that is a gas hog. Like i have a 20oz tank and i get like 800 shots from it. My friend has a 98 custom and with the same tank get like 1300 shots. In the wiinter i am lucky if i get 600...lol. But being such a great gun, its worth the extra gas! Nevere evr chops paint either.
