Mostly for (cos)play February 28, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have just ordered one and after reading the other reviews, I'm satisfied that I made a good choice. Right now I'm not into practicing with it (since this is the only thing I could get at this price and certain people I live with wouldn't currently approve of me practicing swinging this thing around). It's basically for play (or cosplay) for Comic Con as something that can look like a sword in in it's scabbard. Since I'm not going to be hitting things with it, I feel happy that I ordered from Sword Demon.
a word to the wise February 22, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
as i was very pleased with the boken, i wouldnt suggest buying from other than sword demon. i bought mine from another and not only were there some dents in it but when it got here it was missing a piece and i had to contact the seller to get them to send a replacement. be sure to get the sword, the hard plastic guard AND the rubber piece that goes over the hard plastic guard. i originally bought two other bokens from sword demon before i got this one. but because i wanted a slightly cheaper product, (a difference of maybe two dollars at the most)i bought from another seller and got a shorter boken! it was shorter by three inches which kinda looks awkward when you have two other ones longer than it and heavier. so just be warned. and dont cheap out for two dollars for a cheaper product. just to be on the safe side, buy from sword demon. still a great product though, just disappointed by the lenght.
Good for the price October 29, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First, this is not a sparring bokken. It's not solid enough for hitting things on a regular basis, the wood isn't treated so yours, like mine, might have some minor surface cracking, and the tsuba is an ill-fitting piece of plastic with a rubber stopper.
However, this really is an excellent goofing-off sword well worth the price. I originally ordered it for home but liked it so much I kept it at the office and ordered another. It's a good stress reliever to swing that thing around my desk during the day. The cording, a nice touch that most wooden swords don't have, is solid and feels great. I epoxied the tsuba permanently on to mine and I highly recommend doing so to yours; it makes ALL the difference on this product. The weight is nice for practicing swings and the length is perfect.
If you're expecting high-quality training equipment for this price you'll be sorely disappointed. But, if you want something fun to play around with you could do a lot worse than this sword.
Awesome sword October 8, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this sword and the one with the burgandy finish, I can't be more pleased. The wrap on the handle is a nice Touch; My Guard doesn't really fit that good, but will stay in place (it just jiggles a little when I swing). Also the fact that they have weight to them helps increase the muscles in your wrist and arms. I have hit them together accidentally and they seem to hold up to the blow. Great price for an even greater sword.
Sounds like a good purchase... April 19, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I finally convinced my wife we needed to purchase a couple of these for training. My sons and I will begin training in Kendo soon. I have a few regular swords (not the display only variety) and are very excited with purchasing some practice swords.
I understand these come highly recommended after speaking with a couple of Amazon customers
