Works Like a Charm September 25, 2008 If your looking for a chin up bar that doesn't require bolting into a wall, this is the one you want. It's stable and fits my door like a glove. I ordered the wide grip bar and am really pleased with it as well. The only minor draw back is that the foam guards that rest on the door's frame leave small black marks. Otherwise, I'd give it a 5 star rating.
Good product September 16, 2008 I have not used the door gym extensively so can't comment on durability. However! It does a good job of allowing a Condo/Apartment dweller the luxury of pull-ups. Granted! You are limited as to hand position. But if you want to do chin-ups IT WORKS!
Fit is pretty good into the door-frame. Seems to be sturdy and holds my 200 lbs. No serious complaints so far.
Does what it is supposed to. No assembly instructions. September 13, 2008 Assembly I was not confused by the directions -- because I didn't get any. By looking carefully at the various pictures of the product, I was able to assemble it in about 5 minutes using only the little "wrench" that comes with it, but obviously good instructions would be a plus for most purchasers.
Fit It would not have fit the door frames at my office properly, but fit the one at home just fine. I haven't yet seen any marks on the door, frame or wall.
Use I ended up with the padding on the center section of the bar. If I really wanted the padding, I would move it out since I could only use it with a very narrow grip. My girlfriend can barely do a pull up so she is starting by holding the bar and then jumping to help get herself up, and then doing a negative -- resisting as she is pulled back down. I think in a month she will be able to do a few decent pull ups and then she won't need the jump. We haven't used it for sit ups or push ups -- I don't think a device is needed for those, and overly deep push ups or bench presses over stress the shoulders, in my opinion.
Storage and Installation The product is quite light weight and very easy to put in place and take down.
Shipping As another reviewer noted, the actual box for the product is very compact. For some reason Amazon sent it inside another box that could hold about 8 of them. Better safe than sorry I suppose.
I would recommend the product as part of a home fitness regimen.
works like a charm September 12, 2008 was very skeptical about the claims of this product. it says that it installs on the door frame in seconds without damage... and it actually delivers! have only had for a few days but so far it works as promised. can hold my weight and seems pretty secure. i'm only a little concerned with the strength of the door frame but only time and repeated use will tell. easy to put together although the directions were VERY minimal in the sheet provided (had to guess which washers went where). also the other claims of being used for push ups or crunches is a bit of a stretch... pull ups are great though
be careful, it might not fit your door September 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved the concept and was trying to have a chin bar for my daughter without drilling into the house. But my older house has thicker door jams, and this didn't work for me. There should be some door specs that would have made it easier for me to know in advance that this wouldn't fit. For newer homes, it is probably a great idea.
