Blackburn Air Tower 4 April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
5 Stars - a very strong performer. The connection made with the valve is tight and secure. The pump handle, chamber and mechanism are all sturdy and the pump delivers air to 100psi with a low number of strokes before you start to feel even the slightest resistance. I have used and bought a number of pumps over the years and this is one is right up there with the best. Blackburn pumps have always been well made, easy to use and supplied with long-term guarantees. The pressure dial is easy to read and there is a nice touch concerning the piping, it has a neat storage hook and clamp for storage and it is long enough to aid the ease of use without being cumbersome. If price were not a factor you could look for a pump with a slightly stronger foot plate. The Air Tower 4 uses plastic rather than metal. Still, this does not distract from an otherwise first class product that looks set to last for many years to come.
Blackburn Pump April 21, 2008 Pump works great. When I had a problem, Blackburn gave me a list of local shops that would replace the pump -- under the lifetime warranty -- for free.
Solidly built pump, works well. April 3, 2008 This pump is built nice and solid, and lightweight. Nice comfortable grips, and smooth pumping action. Dial is easily readable. I would recommend this product to anyone. It is worth the money IMO.
Do not buy this pump. January 12, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
There seems to be a defect in this pump where it will not release from the valve. I've broken two tire valves and have gone through two of the same pumps in two weeks hoping it was just that one. Not the case after the second pump arrived same problem. It seems someone else on this review board also has the same problem. On the blackburn site it says the head was redesigned for 2008 yet they are still letting their 2007 defects float around the market. Really disappointing.
Good Floor Pump for the Avid Cyclist January 11, 2008 This pump has been a really great investment. I love the fact that they have a lifetime warranty should anything ever go wrong with the pump. So far, the only complaint I have had about this pump is that there is no way to release air while attached to the valve stem. I have only used this on Presta valve stems and on the Presta valve extensions on my aero wheelset. It holds firm and allows me to pressure all the way up to 160 psi which is what I ride on my aero wheelset/tires. On my road frame wheelset, I pressure to 125-130 psi and have no problems. I do wish the air tube held just a bit more volume as it takes many strokes to get it up to pressure if you deflate your tires considerably as I do. All in all, good bang for your buck!
