4 out of 5 stars Works one way or another:)   February 27, 2008

I bought this because like so many of you I have a yappy dog next door (love dogs, detest owner who neglects dog). Since it barks for hours and hours, I searched the internet for a solution and found these sonic barking deterrents and thought I'd try it out.

First of all, nice to know I'm not alone here in the dog barking dilemma.

Second of all, it did freak out my neighbors dogs (three of them) while on silence and would get my entire neighborhood in a doggy uproar if on the audible mode. The good news is, after two days on silence sonic the dogs barking went down considerably. The bad news is - after a few weeks, they didn't care anymore.

This is where the audible noise came in very handy. While their dogs barked, this machine screeched at a more annoying and obnoxious level - but it's my right, as it's their right to let their dogs bark forever. SO, the neighborhood has decided that they need to take care of the dog situation rather than listen to the sonic bark deterrent all day.

Be ready for a confrontation from the neighbors. Be ready to be called a dog hater. But hopefully you can ready for some quite time. Good luck.

And don't get it wet. It rained one day and I had to dry it out for days after and it's never completely been the same.

1 out of 5 stars Did not stop dog from barking   January 14, 2008

I somehow knew this thing would not stop the neighbor's dog from barking. I looked at this unit on-line several times, and each time decided not to buy it. One day I must have had a weak moment with that dog barking and Barking and BARKING... So, I thought I would give it a shot. Alas, I put it within 30' of the dog, 6' high and in direct line of sight. The unit appears to be functioning and sending out it's signal. Even on the ultrasonic setting, there is a slight audible 'click.' However, it has no effect on the dog. The dog still barks and barks and barks... Maybe it would work for your dog, but it did not work for mine.

4 out of 5 stars Useless if the dog is deaf...   January 2, 2008

OK, so the thing we didn't think about was that the neighbor's dog is deaf, or nearly so. I hear that white dogs have a greater tendency to deafness, and especially if they have blue eyes. I recommend checking to see if the dog(s) are deaf before you buy anything like this. Recommend _How Dogs Think: What the World Looks Like to Them and Why They Act the Way They Do_ by Stanley Coren to read about how to do a doggie hearing test OR to see if there is a REASON why the dog barks so much that you can fix, first. E.g., make a loud noise when the dog isn't looking at you and see if he responds. Gave 4 stars because this really isn't something the manufacturer can do anything about.

4 out of 5 stars Works well, but range is too short   December 12, 2007

I've used this product for a few months now, against my neighbors dogs. The Super Bark Stop works well if the dogs are within 15 feet, but anything beyond that the bark sensor doesn't trigger.

It took about two weeks for the device to take effect, but it has been noticeably quieter in my backyard, and my wife and I can finally sleep.

5 out of 5 stars Super Barker Breaker Works!   November 24, 2007

I was skeptical at first, even after I finaly broke down and bought one. I wasn't convinced it would even work but I had to try something. I could not take my neighbors dogs barking any more. I had called the cops, spoke to them directly, all to no avail. Once I placed this unit up on a wall in the vicinity of my neighbors dogs I saw little to no difference... at first. Withing two days the dogs stopped almost completely. They still bark if a person with an animal walks by or something to that nature, but only once or twice. They used to carry on barking for a good half an hour to an hour. The barking has been reduced to the point I can handle. It keeps the dogs from just barking continously to only barking when they are supposed to, like if someone comes up into the driveway. Anywho, what I am trying to say is this unit (Super Bark Stop) is fantastic. I have had it up for a good two months and have not had to change the batteries once. I would suggest this to anyone who is interested in teaching there dog to stop barking or shutting up those noisy dogs your neighbor owns!
