is teaching my son balance, coordination, and independence March 30, 2008 My husband and I purchased this bike for our son when he was about 2 1/2. His feet barely reached the pedals, so we helped him until he got big enough. Now he's 3, his feet reach the pedals, and every couple of days we go for a walk, and he rides his tricycle. He is not a fast kid, so he stays right next to us, and occasionally he does start to tip over, but we usually catch him in time to keep him from getting hurt. He climbs right back on and we go again. We bought a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads at the same time that we purchased this tricycle, and he wears them EVERY TIME. He is also always within reach when he's on the tricycle.
I have read many one star reviews, and I would agree with them that your child has to be just the right size to ride the bike--perhaps being taller and heavier makes it harder to stay upright, thanks to inertia and wind resistance. I can also see that if your child is more physically inclined and likes to go fast, this would not be the tricycle for you--it's more like a cadillac than a mustang. However, it's been a good, safe tricycle for my son, and has provided him with hours of learning and fun.
One mechanical issue is the bell: the screws have loosened and it hangs beneath the handlebars. This could be more an indicator of my husband's procrastination than anything else, though.
Classic fun!! January 18, 2008 Radio Flyer Classic Red Dual Deck Tricycle Easy assembly with typical household tools. Very sturdy and perfect size for the 2 years and up age group. Kids love the handle bar mounted bell. Would definately consider buying additional products from this manufacturer.
Great Trike! December 6, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My son is two-and-a-half, and loves this trike! He is average height, and it fits him perfectly. For those who said it was too big, I'm wondering if they lowered the seat. Most two-year-olds can't pedal anyway! By the time they can, this trike should be just right. The bell sounds great, and my boy loves to ring it! I think this beats a plastic trike both in appearance and durability.
Classic kid-powered fun! November 27, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this wonderful tricycle used at a yard sale, and it is still going strong, 6 years after my purchase and 3 kids later. Child number 3 still rides it, at age 5, but this will be his last year, as we are ready to get him a small bike with brakes so he can join us on bike trips around the neighborhood, ecetera.
My kids (2 boys, 1 girl) all LOVED this tricycle. They loved riding it up and down our 95 foot driveway and giving each other (and neighborhood friends) rides on the back. Even when they got too big to sit on the seat, they amused themselves endlessly by sitting on the back step and pedaling that way.
Yes the bike did tip over when a child tried a turn that was too tight, yes it squeaks sometimes unless you oil it, and yes it kind of looks like the Velveteen Rabbit at this point (after the aforementioned 6 years and 3 kids, the tricycle has some rust, its tassles have been pulled off, the bell is missing, it has some dings, etc...). But in terms of sheer fun, time spent actually being used, and lifespan (the red color makes it perfect for brothers to pass down to sisters and vice versa), this Radio Flyer trike really takes the cake over anything else in my garage.
Highly recommended.
It's just like the Radio Flyer Tricycle from the '50s October 15, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Radio Flyer 33 Classic Red Dual Deck Tricycle
We bought this tricycle for my granddaughter's 4th birthday. I have to say that she just loves it. Her eyes just lit up when she saw this neat little tricycle for the first time. The bike looks really nice and the fine workmanship is still there plus it really lives up to the Radio Flyer name. I wish I had one when I was little but we couldn't afford one. Now that I am able to give this to my granddaughter I guess everything came full circle (I am very pleased with that outcome). I would definitely recommend this little tricycle to all children age 3 to 6.
