Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker Lockblade Pocket Knife (Black)
Newest Swiss Army Knife June 9, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've had Swiss army knives in my pocket for most of my life, so it was only natural to look for another one when min (of 6 years) "disappeared". I was surprised to find so many varieties . . . The one-hand trekker seemed like a good replacement for my previous knife "The Adventurer". (Seems odd for a knife to have a name, but wtf? It looked like a good, solid, multi-functional knife. I (at first) helf off buying it because of (1) the saw blade, which I saw little use for, and (2) the serrated blade. After several uses already, I find the saw blade very efficient and funtional. The verdict is still out on the serrated blade, however. I always kept my knife sharp . . . I have a whetstone handy (I keep in the kitchen), and with just a minutes time I can have a razor sharp blade. The serrated blade (of course) cannot be sharpened, and I find that it just kind of hacks its way through stuff. I get the job done, but I'm not really too happy about the inability to really sharpen the main blade. I must say, however, that for most jobs, it's a solid knife with a good, heavy-weight feel to it. Something that really attracted me to the knife was the loop on the main blade, made to open the knife one handed. I find that I CAN open it one-handed, but the loop is not placed exactly right for the weight of the knife to "throw" it open. A little bit farther forward would have been optimal, but, for some reason, that's not how it was made. And, as I've said, it CAN be opened one-handed. After all, it's not like I'm trying to impress anyone when I do it. So, it only gets a "4" out of "5". But, for a knife, I don't think that's TOO bad!
The best example of what Victorinox quality is. March 17, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have had a Victorinox Swiss Army knife at some point in my life ever since I was in the Scouts. The Saw blade and the liner lock on the partially serrated knife blade are the reasons I love the Trekker. The black textured finish on the handle is icing. It is hard to speak on the quality of Victorinox unless you have used some of the knock offs. I have and from the use of the knives to opening and closing the different tools one can tell the difference straight away. The tools open freely but only in the direction that they were intended to, no side to side movement. They close the same way, but not unexpectedly. They are like well made watches every part no matter how small or insignificant it may seem is made and engineered perfectly. The classic knife that is included is no exception. This is a knife that Victorinox could have cut corners on, or got lazy with years ago after the success with all their other items, but they haven't. The classic knife is a small perfect little ruby crafted as well as a one of their watches.
Missing saw blade!! March 14, 2008 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
The saw blade was a decisive point in my choice of this knife. Alas, mine had none (there is an empty slot where it should be). And now the price is twice what I paid for it. Was this just a move-out of defective pieces? Beautiful knife, but missing a key component.
The Perfect Camping Knife February 29, 2008 The perfect companion on a camp plus the one handed opening of the blade works better than expected. You can't go wrong with a Swiss Army Knife!
