Great system May 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The system goes together easily despite the lack of picture instructions. I was able to assemble alone in 2 hours. The only downside, the base had a slow leak through the cap on the back side. I wrapped the thread with plumbers tape and added a 1/8th inch rubber seal ($3.50 at the hardware store) to stop the drip. The height adjustment is smooth and effortless. The kids love the new addition to the yard.
Great system.....poor directions May 20, 2008 I bought this system as a suprise for my kids. It showed up in record time and I was very pleased with that. I was also pleased with the price. However, I am NOT very pleased with trying to put the thing together. I read the directions thoroughly and located all the parts necessary to put together just as instructed to do. Things were going fine until we figured out that when you put the poles together the way the directions and arrows instruct.....you are actually putting them on BACKWARDS!!! This isn't very fun since you can't get the poles apart now and you can't just unscrew one thing and turn it around. It truly is a great system look wise, but putting it together is a whole other story. Oh and poor customer service from the company for help as well.
messy installation process May 19, 2008 Started assembling with two other "handy" guys around 2, didn't finish until past 5. The box it came in had a hole and a few key pieces were missing. I had bought two sets, so we used the pieces from the other set. (which Spalding did ship me the new piece). Also, the first set I opened was missing the instructions. Instructions are not great. However, now that it's up, it's great and sturdy.
Returning item due to poor instructions but great Amazon return help! January 28, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered this system for my husband for Christmas. The weather was finally permitting him to put it together. The system looked great but we were not able to complete the installation due to terrible instructions! It took 4 neighbors to try help pull a portion of the pole back apart to no avail! Beware of the difficult instructions!Unfortunately we wasted a lot of time and the system will be going back. I do applaud Amazon for a great return process, however.
Great system January 9, 2008 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
Pros: Portable, adjustable height, sturdy and strong, 3" steel pole, 44" x 30" clear backboard. Instructions are overall good (about 2 hours). Just add 2 gallons of RV antifreeze ($5 ea) if below freezing. Easy to lift and carry when empty (recommend water since it's easier to empty than sand).
Cons: Can't move once filled unless it's on a very hard surface because wheels are only 3.5 inches in diameter) and the approx 350 lb system creates a large pressure on those small wheels (300 lbs of water) and it digs into grass. The fill cap has no rubber seal, so water may leak when it is tilted, moved, or the base stepped on. One important problem with the instructions (read below) will only permit maximum height of 9.5 feet instead of 10 feet.
Instruction problems: This is relative to instructions dated 07/07 (ID M7221242). Page 21 shows bracket 27 and 34 attaching to the two lower holes and instead should be attached to the two higher holes. Using the two higher holes allows the 10 foot height to latch. Another minor problem is that page 24 shows lower elevator tube positioned backwards (that middle hole should be closer to the pole as it is correctly shown on pages 23 and 25). I notified Spalding of these two illustration problems.
