4 out of 5 stars Neat and easy but a tad awkward   July 18, 2008
The l liter version is larger than I thought. I thought it would be more wide for some reason. If you want it for every day use, the .5 liter version would probably be better.

After you finish off the water, folding it up is super easy so it is good to carry around and refill when needed.

I wouldn't recommend the 1 liter version if you plan on carrying it around, but if you can set it somewhere then it is just as convenient. You do need two hands to drink this, unless you are very talented or don't mind spilling.

5 out of 5 stars A very cool water 'bottle'   June 26, 2008
These things are pretty cool. The first time someone sees it they make some remark like, "wtf, why are you drinking from a bag?!" but after a short explanation of its merits they're asking where they can buy one.

The thing stands upright even when almost totally empty. The water is tasteless. No bisphenol a. If you need to clean it then just pour some boiling water in it and let it sit. You can freeze it (I would leave the cap open to make sure it doesn't rupture). This thing will double as an icepack to keep things cold in you lunch box and provide you with a cool drink. You can use it as a hot bag for sore muscles. You can drink out of the 1 liter bag with one hand although it will take two hands to open the push/pull cap. When empty the bag will fit in your pocket, it's not super comfy but it will go. It will definitely fit in a tight space in a backpack or purse. My wife loves it because when full it is still flexible and can be stuffed in her purse where a hard water bottle just won't go. I think the only criticism I can levy against it is that it won't fit in a cup holder but if the cap is on securely then it doesn't need to.

I have yet to experience a leak. Make sure the snap cap is *all the way closed* and twisted on securely. A review at slate.com said it looked like a colostomy bag - funny and probably true. Nonetheless, this bag is very 'neato'.

4 out of 5 stars platypus is convenient   May 15, 2008
This item is easy to take with you on a vacation. There is one drawback. It is difficult to carry. I would like a case with it that keeps it insulated and has a strap. There may be one but I am not familiar with it.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty much as expected.   March 15, 2008

There are only two cons that I have found. 1) It is pretty much impossible to clean in any fashion other than putting soap & water in it and shaking it. 2) The bottom plastic kind of crimps up weird when trying to collapse it down if you're not paying attention, and I think that eventually it'll break, but it's held up so far. I've been using it for about a month now.

It's definitely a conversation piece; I've gotten several compliments/questions at my gym (most common comment is that it looks like an IV bag). It's very useful and I like how small it is. Water isn't dis-flavored because of it (like Nalgene bottles). It's relatively easy to use once you get used to it. If you wanted to use if for anything other than the gym, I'd highly recommend one of the bigger ones, as .5L is not a lot.

Overall, it's useful, it's cheap, it works, it's unique, and that's about it. What more could you ask?

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have   November 29, 2007

As an international flight attendant I take this on all my flights.
I have had one of these for about 10 or plus years. I have used it heavily. It is worn out now, and I am ready for another one.

Travel tip:
If you are cold at the hotel you can fill it with hot water for your bed. Just wrap a towel around it if it is too hot.
This thing is sweet.
