1 out of 5 stars Disappointing Platform for Guitar Hero/Rock Band Fans and Movie Watchers   October 29, 2008

I can't begin to tell you how frustrating that this purchase has been for me. While the system is, strictly speaking, a PS3, I feel like Sony really stuck it to people like me who thought that they were buying a REAL PS3.

The biggest thing that drives me crazy is the LOUD fan noise - When we watch a movie, this thing sounds like someone left a hair drier on medium setting behind our TV. That's not an exaggeration. During quiet scenes, it's very distracting. Apparently the "real" PS3s don't have this noise.

It also has only two USB slots. You'd think for a Bluetooth system, you wouldn't need more than two so that you can charge your wireless remotes. But Rock Band came needing three USB slots. I know that that's not Sony's problem - but every other PS3 model has more than two USB slots.

It's not backward compatible. When the PS3s first came out, they said that they were all backward compatible. Turns out not so much. Not with the cheap version.

If you're getting a PS3, you'd better read the specs VERY carefully to know what you're getting. It's not just a difference in hard drive size!

5 out of 5 stars My Only Game Console Review   October 26, 2008
I own a very small Playstation 2. It looks like the bigger one but smaller. I used to share it with my brother until he got an XBox 360 last year for Christmas then he gave the Playstation 2 to me. I have a couple questions. Does it play normal DVDs and PS2 and PS1 games? Please comment the review with the answers please. I was 11 in 5th grade when I heard adults were camping out at Best Buy so when they opened they would get the PS3 or the Wii. A couple of my friends asked me what would I rather have. I chose the PS3. I recomend this for all game console fans and Playstation fans. Just be careful when opening it up and putting it together. So Playstation 2 fan Casimus Prime signing off.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Entertainment Hardware   October 3, 2008

I've always been a Playstation fan but I've mostly been a PC gamer until recently. I choose the PS3 over the XBOX360 because of the Blu-ray player and I'm glad I did.

The system is so much more than just a gaming machine. It's an entertainment machine. I love the ability to set up my home PC as a media server and stream video and pictures through the PS3. I love the Playstation Network. Being able to download and play game demos is a real plus.

I also feel the PS3 is more forward looking. Within the next couple years as games become larger the XBOX360 will be held back by standard DVD capacity. The PS3 will not suffer from this due to the much larger capacity of the blu-ray disc.

5 out of 5 stars Why the PS3 w/Blu-ray should be you HD Home Theater Player!! (explained)   October 2, 2008
This review is only for the HDMI Blu-ray Player application for your HD 1080p Home Theater.

First of all the PS3 introduced Blu-ray quickly and cheaply to the masses. Probably helping Sony's Blu-ray win the HD player format wars.

Why is Blu-ray so awesome and a must have? Simply 25 - 50 g vs DVD's 5 - 10 g of info per disc. 1080p (w/HDMI cables (sold seperately) and HDTV) vs 480p. Finally, the cost of a Blu-ray player only is $399. The PS3 Comes with Blu-ray Player (play regular DVDs with upstreaming capabilty), 1080p playstation game console (you must buy the optional HDMI cable), plays CD's and accessible to the internet for just $399 wow.

My Qualifying Statement: My HD Home Theater weighs in at about $2000, plus movies. The break down; a Mitsubishi Projector (HC-1500 up to 1080p with HDMI Blu-ray) $800 (orig $1495), a Sony 5.1 Sound System (HT-SS2300) 3 HDMI inputs/1 HDMI output $399 (orig $499) and a Sony PLAYSTATION 3 (w/Blu-ray player included) $399 (orig $499). Sony High Speed HDMI cables $160 and HD Screen Paint & kit $180 for my 108" viewing wall screen. With this 1080p system I've created a HD HDMI 5.1 Home Theater presentation sight and sound equal to an IMAX (on a smaller scale) experience.

Simply I will explain only the Blu-ray HDMI Audio and Display Set-Up.

PS3 Main Menu Screen - pan (NOTE: PAN IS SAME AS ARROW)left to SETTINGS - pan down to DISPLAY STATUS depress enter button - VIDEO OUTPUT SETTINGS depress enter button - SELECT HDMI pan right - SELECT CUSTOM pan right - CHECK 480p / 720p /1080i /1080p depress X - SELECT FINISH depress X. Return to SETTINGS - pan down to SOUND SETTINGS depress enter button - - AUDIO OUTPUT SETTINGS depress enter button - Select HDMI pan right - SELECT MANUAL pan right - CHECK DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 CH1 / DTS 5.1 ch / PCM 5.1 ch44 and all other appropiate and defaults needed. to support.

Support PS3 accessories are; Sony High Speed HDMI Audio/Video Cables (suggested DLC-HD20T a 6' triple sheilded cable $50 NOTE: length is determined by your Home Theater requirements. Mine was 3 x 6') and a PS3 Blu-ray Disc Remote Control (much more natural to use than the supplied game controller).

Bottomline: The PS3 HDMI w/Blu-ray player is the obvious economical and versatile choice for your HD Home Theater. Sony is the originator of Blu-ray so their product is proven to perform beautifully !!! And it does. Oh I forgot to mention it also supports BlueTooth technology. Meaning for one the remote works anywhere. Enjoy this masterpeice.

5 out of 5 stars Game Play Good. Graphics & Blu-Ray Movies AWESOME!   September 29, 2008
I'm not a gamer, so I'm not going to critique this on it's gameplay. But, the graphics on an HD TV from the Blu-Ray movie player are UNBELIEVABLE! It sets the standard for home theater. Period.
