| Customer Reviews:
Durable, but do you need it? August 27, 2008 This product is made by Tippmann, so you know it will last. It's also intuitive and does what it's supposed to do well. But, like some other upgrades, this product comes down to ease of installation and necessity.
CO2 is naturally less consistent when it comes to compressed air when it comes to paintball. It is much more temperature-sensitive and is stored as a liquid inside of the tank. Thus, it's much more fickle as you fire your gun, leading to some variation in muzzle velocity.
An expansion chamber is an easy (but not precise) step to help curb that problem. The regulator goes a step further and actually acts as a stop between the gun and the tank - whatever pressure is let in, only the pressure you specify is let out, meaning you won't have the spikes and dropoffs in velocity.
However, players who play with Tippmanns often enough to be affected by this problem will usually switch to compressed air, because Tippmanns can use both (note: high pressure air anyway - don't buy a low pressure tank by mistake like I did). Some people stay with CO2, whether by personal preference or because it is notoriously difficult to find a store to fill your HPA tank outside of going to a paintball field. This product is for those people.
However, unlike many Tippmann products, I found this to be an awkward installation. If you look at the picture, you will see the left end screws into the place your tank normally goes. But the opposite end is threaded to receive a gas line, not a tank. So this requires you to get another line and then another receiver for your tank. Alternately, you could run a remote line out of the other end, but you would need to remove one end down to the thread at the end of the actual line.
If you are using CO2 and want to avoid the variations, you'll want this. But its awkard install is a significant drawback and limits the otherwise amazing easy customization potential of the Tippmanns.
