Great Concept, One Fatal Flaw May 4, 2008 In the paintball world, the Splatmatic XJ40 (.40 caliber paintball marker) targeted a niche which it virtually created itself. An inexpensive semi-auto marker pistol.
To its credit, it can shoot rapidly, and fairly accurately. It is factory set for velocity, though it is also adjustable. More than that, it can fire about 100 paintballs on a single CO2 (12 gr) cartridge. Frankly, it is fun to use.
The overall marker is well designed and clearly over-engineered. It is all metal (a beafy aluminum frame and barrel), with all moving parts removable for cleaning or lubrication.
Sadly, the only non-repairable / non-replaceable part is its weakest and most fragile part. The gas cartridge seal is made of a rubber that simply does not appear to stand up to wear and tear. After about 15 cartridges, the seal fails. Since it appears impossible to replace, the gun becomes instantly useless.
A second major flaw with the gun, though not of the fatal nature as just mentioned, is the ball hopper. As the balls attempt to funnel down into the gun, they jam in the neck of the hopper. After 5 balls or so, it begins firing "blanks" until you shake the hopper vigorously to dislodge the jam.
This would have been a great product except for the irreplaceable seal that fails so quickly. As it is, it becomes a throw-away after several months of use.

Hi I also have a .68 paintball gun and with 1 12gr. co2 I only get 20 shots and it's a Brass Eagle Blade. With this gun, I Get over 100 shots with even more power and the price explaines it. Splatmatic, your guns are the BEST! Thanks,Cody
