Amazon.com Product Description
Need a compact, easy-to-use home workout apparatus? Turn to the Creative Fitness door gym deluxe package, which invites you to perform chin-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, and many other exercises. The door gym is equipped with a pair of close-grip handles attached to the center of a workout bar. When you want to perform chin-ups or pull-ups, simply hook the door gym's unique curved arm onto the molding of your doorframe, which will use your body weight to create a cantilever effect. As a result, the device will bind securely in your doorway without a single screw, letting you position the device for immediate use in seconds. Once you've installed the door gym, you can perform four different styles of pull-ups to work the back, shoulders, and biceps. Plus, it's guaranteed not to damage your doorway, unlike many permanent chin-up bars.

The door gym goes beyond the average pull-up bar in other ways, however, thanks to the close-grip handles. The handles let you position your palms to face each other as you pull, isolating the muscles within the middle of your back to help build size and strength, while also conditioning the primary muscles responsible for keeping the spine erect for better all-day posture. Nothing on the market offers such a variety of hand positions, creating a back workout that's never boring. As a bonus, you can position the door gym on the floor to perform push-ups, leg lunges, or sit-ups.

The door gym deluxe package--which includes a pair of ab loops and a broad-reach bar for performing pull-ups with a wider grip--is designed to fit residential (framed) doorways from 24 to 32 inches wide, and can be extended up to 45 inches with an extension. The door gym requires the following door dimensions: 1.5 to 3.5 inches for the face molding around the door; 0.25 to 0.75 inches for the molding distance from the wall; and 4.25 to 6.25 inches for the wall thickness. The door gym supports up to 300 pounds.

4 out of 5 stars Very good item; a few poor points   August 31, 2008

This is a very good item. I was worried about this item, as I read tons of conflicting reports. I can now officially say that this item works great! It fit my door frame fine, it came with a clip for the back, but I found that I didn't need it(I guess if I swung around back and forth, there is a chance that I can knock the back part off the frame).

At first, it felt that the bar was going to come apart(I weigh 180lbs), but it turns out it was all in my head because it did not and I was pleasantly surprised at how something that looks so simple can support my weight.

As for everything else;
- Instruction Manual - really POOR. The assembly was simple enough, but the instruction manual( a double printed piece of paper folded 8 times) did not cover any steps, just had a picture with screws pointed at a few points(nothing about where the washers that came with the item should go)

- Accessories
- Wide grip bar - I guess I expected more than I should have. The Wide bar is just what you see in the pictures, does NOT lock/secure onto the frame, it just sits on top of the padded grips
- Slings - I have mixed feelings - it works well and great, but I getting it to be the right size involved tearing that velcro and retightening it too many times. Seeing that what it is, I think I might have went for the DIY guerrilla approach and used an old towel and sewn some velcro stips.

Overall, great product to own for a pick workout in the middle of the night - the accessories may not add as much value as you would think.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Product   July 8, 2008

I just received this today, and I like it so far. It took only four bolts to put it together, and I'll admit, I was a little afraid of what this would do to my doorway when I hung on it. But, it held my 240 lbs. body just fine for each of my sets. I think this and the ultimate body press (dip stand) go well together as both work the upper body and are easy to store.

The only reason I didn't give it a five star rating is because I'm not sure the deluxe package is worth the money. The wide grip bar just rests on top of the device and I haven't found it to be comfortable. So far, I like the two handles, but if I change my mind I'll update this review. So...I'd definately give the base package five stars. It works great...is easy to hang up (I didn't use the safety tab)and it seems to be very sturdy.

Just make sure the doorway you use is wide enough for the rubber cushions to rest on the trim. If the metal hits the trim, it will leave dents and scrap off paint. No problems however is the cushions hit the trim.

Update: I've now used this for a week and I've gotten use to the Deluxe bar. I usually do three sets with the deluxe bar and two to three with the regular handles of the basic door gym. So, I like the bar from the deluxe package, but I think it is overpriced. My advice is, if you have the disposable income and really like pull ups, buy the deluxe package. If you are on a budget, stick with the basic door gym and place some rags or other padding over the bare rods of the basic door gym to do your wide grip pull-ups.

5 out of 5 stars Very Convenient   July 4, 2008

Arrived very quickly, and installation was painless. Installation was very simple, and only involved a few screws using the included mini-wrench. Wide grip bar makes workouts feel much better, as the original bar has only either a very narrow chin up grip, or a grip with palms facing each other. Ab straps actually are pretty useful for doing abs, although I prefer to simply hang onto the bar and work my grip at the same time.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for apartment rentals!   June 27, 2008

I always wanted to install a pullup bar and I couldn't because I rent and I don't want to drill holes in the wall. Came across this door gym, bought the deluxe version, and been working out ever since. It's very stable and it doesn't scratch the wall.

Some people don't believe the deluxe package is worth it but I like it because the straps allow me to do a lot of leg lifts and the extension bar is perfect for reverse pullups and for even stretching the back when not on the pullup bar.

If you're an apartment renter, this is the product for you.

4 out of 5 stars Great Door Gym   April 9, 2008
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

this is a great door gym, it works as advertised. Easy assembly and fits on most doors like it says it does. It's a really good space-saving equipment. I've been using it as a chin up and pull up bar and have noticed improvements in my arms and chest.

The only thing I didn't like about this product is the extra ab loops and broad reach bars, they're pretty useless! Save your money & just buy the door gym without the extras.
