Topeak deflator July 14, 2008 This IS the worst item I have purchased in years
1- It gave 1 reading in 20 attempts...15.5psi when the actual was 120psi 2- It deflated all tires <30psi
This item demonstrates a need for an IMMEDIATE embargo on Taiwanesse imports
Anyone who purchases this gauge is a FOOL..& should have his credit card privileges suspended pending a competency evaluation
Mislead by earlier reviews July 2, 2008 I didn't buy this on Amazon because of the earlier negative reviews.
So, I went by my local bike shop to look for an alternative, and this was the gauge they had. They showed me how to use it, and I found it has none of the problems described by earlier reviews, when used correctly.
To use it correctly on high pressure presta valves you have to a) have it on the presta setting, and b) make sure that the valve seats correctly in the gauge as you put it on.
Seated correctly, the tire loses about 0.5 lbs per use. That's less that the advertised 1.0 to 1.5 lbs in the manual.
The alleged wait for it to turn on is trivial.
The readings are accurate and consistent with the inline gauge on my Topeak floor pump. They are also consistent with the pressures that 12g and 16g cartridges are supposed to provide.
My only quibble is that you do have to be careful to put the gauge over the valve stem gently and guide it carefully to the middle of the gauge seat.
Way too awkward to be usable for Presta valves but some good points June 6, 2008 This gizmo could make you nuts. There is a mechanism that retracts for presta valves, the only problem is it doesn't retract smoothly so you end up letting out a lot of air before it is in the correct position. I have a gauge that cost half the price that I like much better for low pressure. A real disappointment for high pressure (80 to 125) psi pressure checking, however, the accuracy is very very good once you handle it correctly. If you want one gauge for all applications, I guess this one could be for you but it is tricky. Another draw back is that the on-off button is placed in exactly the spot you grip the gauge.
Doesn't work April 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first problem with this gauge is that the one I received would only register 0.0 lbs on schrader valves, I didn't try it on presta valves. The second problem is that the ON button would constantly be ON if you tossed it in a bag or pack. It's not protected by a bezel and switches on with the slightest pressure. And finally, it comes in the type of tough plastic packaging - with rivets no less - that you need sharp implements and brute force to get into.
Works Well August 28, 2007 I'm surprised at the negative reviews. This product is well designed. It is easier to use than the traditional analog gauges and worth the price premium.
