Product Description This Deluxe Trunk Mounted Bike Carrier by Allen holds up to three bikes and is ideal for weekend biking trips with friends and family. Compatible with sedans, hatchbacks, minivans, and SUVs, this rack features 15-inch long carry arms and a tie-down system to securely holds and protect each bicycle. The rack comes fully assembled, so it can be set up and attached quickly. About Allen Bike Racks In 1967, after a few years of working on the aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist, to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. A cycling enthusiast, inventor, and family man, Allen had a personal need for a bike-carrying device. On weekends, he would take his sons and wife to Cape Cod or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What proved difficult time and again was the transport of his family?s bicycles. Rather than fight through inconvenience with twine and a dinged car, Allen sought an answer for himself as well as a market in which he foresaw major growth possibilities. Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln, Massachusetts garage in search of a more efficient way to transport bikes. Drafting designs during the day and constructing them throughout the night, he put together a model made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding). At first, the Allens tested the prototype on weekend excursions. Finding the first trunk-mounted rack to be a success, Dick started Allen Bike Racks. Dealer acceptance came quickly, and by 1971 Allen Bike Racks were sold nationally through a number of major bicycle distributors. Today, the company owns over three dozen patents and offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dick?s son Alex now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small garage run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two factories abroad, and has products sold in more than a dozen countries around the world.

Awesome Bike Rack! September 5, 2008 I purchased a more expensive bike rack before this one and returned it because the straps did not hold the bikes in place securely. This Allen Bike Rack is great. The straps are sturdy and hold the bikes in place, even though there are only 4 straps (don't miss the other 2!). I was carrying a mountain bike and a regular 21 speed bike with no problem. It mounted easily right out of the box, took all of about 10 minutes. Bikes were held secure on my mini van. There is definately room for 3 bikes on this rack, and I had no issue with scatching the paint or getting anywhere close to the paint. Great bike rack for the money you will not regret the purchase. As usual, Amazon's delivery was fast!!
Just one complaint. August 26, 2008 We bought this to take our 2 adult-sized bikes on vacation (about a 3.5 hour drive). The rack was easy to install and held the bikes just fine - our only complaint was that if we put a bike at the inner-most spot, the bike would hit the back of the car. Luckily for us we only needed to transport 2 bikes, but if we had 3, our bumper would have been definitely scratched up from the bike hitting it.
Great bike rack for the price. June 16, 2008 PROS: light, easy to set up, versatile (fits a lot of different cars) CONS: wobbles side to side a little with larger bikes.
This is a great bike rack. Very secure, easy to install and remove, and the saddles to strap the bikes to swivel to adjust for weird frames. Just keep the larger, heavier bikes towards the inside row to minimize wobble.
We have an 08 MINI Cooper and an 08 Nissan Altima; this rack fits great on both. Very well designed with no "scratch your car up" areas. The hooks are rubber-coated, and the contact-the-car points have thick, dense foam to cushion the rack from your paint.
Excellent product at a great price February 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought it after an extensive search, 5 months ago. No regrets. You install it in a breeze, stays in place even after a week. Although I have not carried more than two bikes yet. Higly recommend it
Great Bike Rack July 28, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just returned from a 400 mile round trip with two bikes on the new rack. It was fantastic. Extremely easy to put on and remove, high quality construction, and very stable with bikes on it. Not one iota of shifting of the bikes in transit. An excellent item in every way...would reccomend it to anyone.
