About LEKI | | LEKI, the world?s leading manufacturer of ski, hiking and trekking poles, had its start in Kircheim, Germany as a hobby of its founder, Karl Lenhart, an airframe mechanic and avid skier. Lenhart believed aluminum would make a superior ski pole compared to the heavy steel models available in the late 1940?s. After successfully creating lightweight poles for his friends, in 1954, the hobby became a full time business. LEKI originated the use of nylon webbing for straps and created plastic molded grips and baskets in place of metal and leather. Additionally, Lenhart developed an aluminum tempering process that produces pole shaft with incomparable strength, durability, and reliability. In 1984, Klaus Lenhart, Karl?s son, assumed leadership and shortly there after developed the first dual-component grip. He is also responsible for improving adjustable pole-locking technology and grip innovations such as the Trigger Click-In system and COR-TEC, a material made of real cork and latex. As the ski market continued to flourish, LEKI began manufacturing hiking poles primarily for European mountain guides. The concept of using two poles as means of relieving stress on knee joints and the lower back appealed to climbers who also saw benefits in performance and safety. LEKI poles eventually caught on with the general hiking and trekking population that recognized and appreciated the preventive health benefits as well as the climbing support and stabilizing effects. In 1990, LEKI USA was incorporated. The North American market has embraced the company?s line of alpine, Nordic, back country, mountaineering, Nordic walking, and trekking poles. Like their European counterparts who have been loyal to LEKI for nearly five decades, North American outdoor enthusiasts know and appreciate LEKI quality and value.

utility pole July 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a lightweight collapsible pole which works beautifully in all likely walking circumstance. It comes with a strange little flexible plastic hook attached, & no explanation of its purpose. It's a useful thingummy. Lets you hang the pole on the back of bus & Metro chair rails, you can slide the strap of an umbrella over it & so forth. But I have a feeling it has some other purpose.
grear walking stick March 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Of all the walking sticks I've checked out, this is a best buy. Light-weight, it telescopes to a size that will fit into medium-sized suitcase. It is easy to use and sturdy. Highly recommended.
Telescopic Walking Cane January 12, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
Pricey for what it is. Telescopic hiking poles of the same design and material cost half as much. I never did find out how the so-calles anti-shock system worked.
fantastic cane!!!!!! November 18, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I need a cane for use every day due to nerve damage in my left leg so the cane becomes my left leg. I have bought alot of different canes and the last one was advertised to support 500 pounds, and came with a life time warranty, after my 3'rd cane and that one was starting to bend I got fed up and saw the Leki cane. I use to cross county ski alot before I got injured and own a pair of Leki adjustable poles which work fantastic. I purchased the Leki wanderfreund cane and used it very hard the first couple of days that would really destroy any cane that I own and it took everything that I could throw at it. I take the tip off outside and the carbide tip really works great, it also just snowed so I took off one of my snow baskets from my ski poles and put it on my cane and it worked super. The bottom line is you cannot find a better cane both for looks or performance there is no match!!!
light, sturdy and versatile October 9, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
LEKI Travel Wanderfreund Pole This is my sixth or seventh walking stick/hiking staff and is by far the best of the bunch. The sections are short enough to pack easily, and the stick is very light but surprisingly sturdy and the handle has a very comfortable grip. The handle is one of the best features, as its unique design allows you to use this as a hiking staff or a cane, where it certainly beats my old Alpenstock! The locks are all that Leki claims and you will never lose the rubber "boot" because of a loose fit! If anything, it fits too tightly. You will want to experiment with different ways of gripping this stick to see what works best for you but, on a long hike, it is really nice to be able to change your hand position from time to time, something you really can't do with other sticks.
