*** DO NOT BUY THIS BRUNTON LIGHTER *** January 4, 2009 This is poorest quality Butane lighter I have ever purchased -- one star is overly generous. I am very thankful that I tried this one out in the field before deploying overseas. I have returned the original and the replacement BRUNTON sent to me directly. This lighter cannot be relied upon to work within 3-4 attempts and does not function at all with any kind of moisture. The refill valve breaks frequently. This lighter looks good and might impress a weekend warrior / weekend camper types -- but it is DEFINATELY not for PROS who live in the outdoors or field environments. BOTTOMLINE: It is unreliable. I would choose to carry matches before the BRUNTON FIRESTORM lighter.
Great little lighter December 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great little lighter. I bought it because I wanted a lighter that had a waterproof cap. I went ahead and ordered this one.
I expected the cap to be metal but as other reviewers commented, the cap is plastic. Its pretty sturdy though.
The lighter is refillable and has a window in the bottom where you can see if its full with fuel or needs a refil.
The lighter has a clip that I'd probably never use in the field but its nice and the cover has a lanyard hole for tieing it down.
It is fairly wind resistant but I haven't tried it in any kind of storm conditions.
Most torch lighters don't work very well at high altitudes so consider other options for your survival kit if you're a mountain climber.
It has only one torch but shoots a very nice long and strong flame.
I've had no problems with this lighter since I purchased it about 6 months ago but then again I don't use it extensively.
It is black which is nice but you might consider a bright lanyard or bright tape if you're a frequent camper and you might drop it.
One final thing. It is a bit expensive. I think it would be entirely worth it if it were made of metal but at plastic -- hmmm. My jury is still out but I like it so far.
The lighter ships empty as is normal for these lighters -- so if you want instant gratification when it arrives, I recommend you have some butane fuel from the supermarket to fill your new lighter.
I hope this helps anyone.
Will not Light!! Maybe once every ten CLICKs!! October 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There was another review with the same problem so now im convinced this thing sucks. It Lights once every ten clicks or so. And iv tried every method conceivable: Holding down button for a second before clicking, or multiple seconds before clicking, yada yada yada. it just sucks. for a $50 lighter i am very disappointed, and after three years of wanting one of these. im afraid to by the other one.
Not really "stormproof" August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I can barely get the flame out. The spark system works once every 7-10 clicks of the button. It takes a while to fuel the lighter, but it burns the gas very very fast.
Eventually when I was able to fully refuel the darn thing and light it, my friend was able to blow the flame with his breath from 2 feet away. So, which part of this thing is "storm proof" exactly?
If you are thinking about getting this piece to use for camping and/or survival, look elsewhere. This item is not trustworthy.
Great lighter for the price July 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This lighter is pretty small and durable. It is extremely windproof being that the wind has never blown it out once and i use it to light my cigars all the time. I have been using it for about a month now it still works great. The only negative is that it uses up a lot of butane fuel having such a strong flame and all. Otherwise well worth the money!
