Product Description All Windproof lighters are not created equal! Only Windmill lighters have earned the right to be called Stormproof. Windmill lighters use a platinum (white gold) catalyzer coil that provides continuous ignition of the gas vapors, even in 70-80mph winds. Refillable with premium or triple-refined butane gas--the cleanest and hottest burning fuel available--Windmill lighters burn at nearly 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, producing a clean, hot flame nearly invisible in outdoor light. The Piezo-electric ignition system is good for over 30,000 ignitions and no flint or batteries! Easy to operate and easy to refill, Windmill lighters have saved lives--reliably igniting fires, even in harsh conditions and at temperatures as low as -40 degrees F. The Windmill Delta Series lighters feature a tough, elastomer armor case that makes them incredibly impact resistant for the most demanding of outdoor challenges. An oversize fuel window allows quick, easy checks on fuel status, and a stainless steel wire closure ensures that your Delta will stay watertight even if it falls from your pack or pocket. Windmill lighters are so amazing, and so reliable, they carry a world-famous lifetime guarantee: if it should ever fail, simply return it to Essential Gear and it will be restored to first-class mechanical condtion free of charge.

bought for storage in survival packs for back country winter outings. Perfect for our needs and flame is hot and reliable.
3 yrs later December 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
overall i got my moneys worth out of it. first fail was the element within the flame thinned out and then fell out.that happened bout 1.5 yrs into it.then a yr later the latch fell off.it worked in the rain on top of mts in the wind getting the good herb lit out in mt bike rides.doesnt work on burning various items on aluminum foil and it doesnt work too good on trying to burn other substances on the glass pipe either.towards the end it was leaking from the flame area.now the other day i lost it somewhere and i need a new stormproof lighter.might just buy another??
Rugged utility lighter works when you need it December 6, 2008 Got this lighter about two years ago, and I came back for another. While it doesn't have the style of a Zippo, it is much more dependable, consistent, and trouble-free. It's versatility comes from the jet flame that lets you light in any position - great for candles in holders that a BIC cant get at, or lighting a grill through the match port. Its combustion chamber and catalyst coil produce a concentrated flame that is much hotter than other jet lighters, and it can start up a fire in damp kindling very quickly, even in the rain. Wind doesn't affect it whatsoever, it had no problem lighting fireworks on the beach at night with 40 mph winds. The butane tank holds enough for about 20 minutes of medium height burn (adjustable), which is plenty for a week of hiking, and the window lets you see how much you have left.
But the real difference that separates this rest is durability. It has two latching mechanisms to keep the top shut - they may look goofy but they work. When the top is closed it is next to indestructible, I've dropped in a lake, had a coal melt through part of the rubber, kicked it across a parking lot, even ran it over with a truck (all by accident), and it still works fine. Simply put, if there is gas in the tank, it will light up on the first try, period. When functionality and dependability are more important than style and aesthetics, this lighter is the best choice.
Windmill lighter September 17, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased a similar lighter by Brunton from a different merchant. The Brunton unit was broken, right out of the box. The Windmill unit works and I've been using it for about a month now. No complaints.
This ligher is an absolute POJ August 9, 2008 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
Right out of the box I could not get it to work. I tried every configuration and adjustment. At it best it puffs and goes out like the candle on a birthday cake. Poof. It does make a good paper weight.
