Amazon.com Product Description
This One-Hand Trekker and Classic pocket knife set will make a great gift or stocking stuffer for any outdoor enthusiast, The Trekker is a 12-item set of stainless-steel tools--all neatly contained inside a single implement that measures just 4-3/8 inches long (111mm). Sheathed in a black cover, the One Hand Trekker Lockblade is one of only three Swiss Army multi-tools with a one-handed serrated locking blade. A valued companion, this pocket knife carries a lifetime warranty against defects. The tools include a serrated locking blade, a bottle opener with a large locking screwdriver and wire stripper, a can opener with a small screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, key ring, toothpick, tweezers, reamer, and wood saw.

This Classic knife contains six tools that put life in order again when they're needed. Measuring just 2-1/4 inches long--less than a pack of gum--and sheathed in a black casing, the Classic pocket knife is a toolbox and manicure kit small enough to fit into a pocket. (It also comes with a key ring.) Stainless-steel tools contained inside are a knife blade, scissors, a nail file with a screwdriver tip, a removable plastic toothpick, and removable tweezers.

About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

5 out of 5 stars Best knife I have owned   September 13, 2008
I loved my Victorinox swiss army knife that I had. It was a red one, with a serrated blade. After having to give it up at an airport because I forgot to pack it in the suitcase, I needed another one.

After reading the reviews, I purchased this Trekker model. It is much better than the one I had. The weight and feel of the knife is perfect. The blades are very sharp. The tools are nice, and balanced. It is a great knife to own and use. I would recommend it for anyone.

Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker Lockblade Pocket Knife (Black)

4 out of 5 stars Newest Swiss Army Knife   June 9, 2008

I've had Swiss army knives in my pocket for most of my life, so it was only natural to look for another one when min (of 6 years) "disappeared".
I was surprised to find so many varieties . . . The one-hand trekker seemed like a good replacement for my previous knife "The Adventurer". (Seems odd for a knife to have a name, but wtf? It looked like a good, solid, multi-functional knife. I (at first) helf off buying it because of (1) the saw blade, which I saw little use for, and (2) the serrated blade.
After several uses already, I find the saw blade very efficient and funtional. The verdict is still out on the serrated blade, however. I always kept my knife sharp . . . I have a whetstone handy (I keep in the kitchen), and with just a minutes time I can have a razor sharp blade. The serrated blade (of course) cannot be sharpened, and I find that it just kind of hacks its way through stuff. I get the job done, but I'm not really too happy about the inability to really sharpen the main blade. I must say, however, that for most jobs, it's a solid knife with a good, heavy-weight feel to it.
Something that really attracted me to the knife was the loop on the main blade, made to open the knife one handed. I find that I CAN open it one-handed, but the loop is not placed exactly right for the weight of the knife to "throw" it open. A little bit farther forward would have been optimal, but, for some reason, that's not how it was made. And, as I've said, it CAN be opened one-handed. After all, it's not like I'm trying to impress anyone when I do it.
So, it only gets a "4" out of "5". But, for a knife, I don't think that's TOO bad!

5 out of 5 stars The best example of what Victorinox quality is.   March 17, 2008

I have had a Victorinox Swiss Army knife at some point in my life ever since I was in the Scouts. The Saw blade and the liner lock on the partially serrated knife blade are the reasons I love the Trekker. The black textured finish on the handle is icing. It is hard to speak on the quality of Victorinox unless you have used some of the knock offs. I have and from the use of the knives to opening and closing the different tools one can tell the difference straight away. The tools open freely but only in the direction that they were intended to, no side to side movement. They close the same way, but not unexpectedly. They are like well made watches every part no matter how small or insignificant it may seem is made and engineered perfectly. The classic knife that is included is no exception. This is a knife that Victorinox could have cut corners on, or got lazy with years ago after the success with all their other items, but they haven't. The classic knife is a small perfect little ruby crafted as well as a one of their watches.

2 out of 5 stars Missing saw blade!!   March 14, 2008

The saw blade was a decisive point in my choice of this knife. Alas, mine had none (there is an empty slot where it should be). And now the price is twice what I paid for it. Was this just a move-out of defective pieces? Beautiful knife, but missing a key component.
