About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

THE ULTIMATE POCKET TOOL June 17, 2008
I bought this item for three reasons, 1) the price was really great! 2) The handles are aluminum (ALOX), so they don't break or crack, 3) it has a saw blade, which is very unusual in this type of knife. That makes the knife much more useful in the woods or in the garden. I always carry it in my truck when I go camping, hunting or fishing. I don't know why anyone would buy a knife without aluminum handles or a saw when it costs less than $20.

Ok I am a bit of a pocket knife fanatic. This is the best knife I own, and I own quite a few, SAK, and others. SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THEY CAN SELL THIS FOR THIS PRICE!!!! This knife is a bargain at $50. It is awesome. Three words..QUALITY, PRECISION, BALANCE. I thought my Mini Champ was great..the farmer is beyond great. If you are a knife nut, do not miss this deal. Buy this knife.
20 years and still going March 28, 2008
I recently purchased a Victorinox Farmer so that I could retire the Farmer that I have carried almost every day for the past 20 years. After heavy use over 20 years the old Farmer is still going strong, I only retired it so that I can one day pass it on to my son.
The blade and tools are heftier, and the alox handles make it thinner and tougher than the traditional red plastic models.
Buy this knife; you won't regret it.

I am a knife addict. I have numerous different knives, but since buying the Farmer they all stay in the drawer. I've used the blade for all the typical knife tasks. The can opener and bottle opener are great, and the screwdrivers are good to have on hand for little loose screws here and there. The blade is sharp and stays sharp for a good while, plus it's easy to sharpen when needed. The thin blade geometry makes it a great cutter even when dulled. The screwdriver and awl can be used for prying, scraping, and other tasks that a knife blade shouldn't be used for, saving the knife. The saw on this knife is awesome. I've used it to cut some PVC pipe for a small plumbing project, and to trim some trees in the back yard. I've got various other SAK's and lots of the one-hand opening lockback knives, plus some classic slipjoints, and the Farmer is hands down my favorite knife even though it cost 1/3 of some of the other knives. The limited edition red color is an added bonus. When I got mine it was on sale for $14.99. If you don't own one yet, but it today (for $14.99 buy two and get free shipping).
