Have made wonderful dishes in this pot. Soups, stews and casseroles. Great for browning on the stove top and placing directly into oven to bake. And cleanup is so easy. Just boil water in pan, wipe out, dry and oil. Never use soap and it will remain nonstick. And be sure to keep the heat down as cast iron heats up really well. Love this pot.
My Very First October 24, 2008 This is my first dutch oven, I read over and over all the reviews to make sure I was getting a good product. I have now made several recipes this week with chicken and everything came out great. Thanks everyone for the tips.
I don't think I could actually live without it... September 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Lodge. I have a 5 quart Le Crueset dutch oven that I don't use as much as this thing. It cooks anything well. I've made chili on the open fire while camping (amazing). I've made sauce in it on my stove top. I even made bread in it in my oven!!! For the person who said that it rusts - it's cast iron. You are not supposed to soak it in water ever. Also, remember that evertime you clean it you have to spread a layer of oil on it to keep it in good shape. I also bought the skillet that is just as great as this. Also another camping staple.

We have lots of cast and this is one of my favorites. I have to say that when I purchased this, I really wanted the one with just the loop handles but this one was cheaper at the time. Boy, am I glad that I got the one with the wire handle. It is one of my favorite features. Cast can be really heavy, especially when full with a pot of food and this handle is so nice just to grab out of the oven. 5 quart is a really good size for a family and Lodge quality is always top notch.
A dutch oven is a must for any kitchen and cast will last a lifetime. It is also the most healthy way to cook.
  I can't believe I didn't buy this sooner June 8, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Lodge dutch oven is a fantastic pan, I really cannot believe I have been cooking for 15 years without one. The lid fits perfectly, providing a leak-free covering for long-simmering stews. I was a bit skeptical about the pre-seasoning, but it was perfectly done, the pan was ready for use right out of the box, I just wiped it a bit in case there was any dust.
Because of its solid construction, it is a very heavy pan. I am glad that I did not buy the 7-quart, as it would have been too unwieldy once filled with food.
I was considering an enameled dutch oven by Le Creuset, but cannot see spending three times as much as the Lodge cast iron oven. Care must be taken to make sure that the pan is perfectly dry when put away to avoid rust, but such is the nature of all cast iron cookware, and is not specific to this item.
