Amazon.com Review For those of us who don't like to be without news and music when we travel, the Sangean ATS 606AP compact stereo receiver is the ideal companion. The unit receives AM/FM, long-wave, and shortwave signals (frequency ranges from 153 to 29,995 kHz and 87.5 to 108 MHz), and frequencies can be set either automatically or manually through the keypad. One of the things that make the ATS 606AP such a terrific travel radio is that it's adaptable for use anywhere in the world. The digital clock can be set to any two time zones, and the unit provides both an alarm and sleep timer. You can set the radio to automatically turn off so that you fall asleep to music and then later gently awaken you with news, music, or the alarm. The auto-tune feature scans all available radio frequencies and presets the stations to the strongest FM/AM or long-wave signal. An internal memory can hold up to 54 radio frequencies, saving you time searching for your favorites. You can refine the tuning with the manual control. Our reception on FM/AM bands was very good, but shortwave yielded only one interference-ridden station, and we were unable to tune in any long-wave at all. The LCD shows the current station, frequency, local time, memory location, and the status of the alarms and all other functions. A small light in the display window switches on for viewing the display in the dark. The carrying pouch is sturdy and convenient with Velcro seals, but neither the shortwave handbook nor the accompanying earphones fit properly in the case. The radio is good looking and compact in design, with a retractable antenna. It's also easy to use, but you'll probably need the handbook to set your preferred stations and use the more advanced functions. Overall, the ATS 606AP is a portable clock radio (just under 6 by 3.5 inches and weighing only 1 pound) with a great deal of appeal. The radio includes a multivoltage AC adapter and a one-year parts-and-labor warranty. --David Greenberger Pros: - Classic transistor radio design
- Compact and packable
- Powerful reception on AM and FM
Cons: - Carry case doesn't hold handbook or accessories
- Display is unreadable at certain angles

I AM ON MY THIRD ONE October 28, 2008 After years of looking I have found the perfect traveling companion! I am currently using my third one of the same radio. U.S.A, New Zealand, Europe, S. America, or the Far East. Whenever you settle for the night; simply scan all available stations, and within one minute, and you have your contact with listening for the rest of the night. Any option you could imagine is available(I have used AM/FM 99% of the time). The batteries seem to last forever!! A little bit of a challenge to learn what buttons do what, but when you have that down it is a dream! I doubt I will ever use another radio when I travel. My best friend.
Very good radio! March 17, 2008 I had this radio (from Radio Shack) for some 5+ years and it always was one nice, easy to use, reliable, with nice reception, nice alarm "human" system device! I gave it to my dad and he still using it daily. The only thing is the price. It is hard to swallow an idea of $100+ for a radio. But the device itself it superb.
Great little radio April 30, 2007 Owned one of these for about 4 years and dropped it several weeks ago. Replaced it with another one last week. Works great on all bands, SSB and synchronus detection would be a nice addition though.
Great Pocket Sw Radio from Sangean March 9, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
For several years, this has been my favorite multiband pocket radio. It recently has been bumped from that position by the Kaito KA1102(see my review on the Kaito). Both receivers offer excellent AM FM and Shortwave performance, including STEREO to earphones.
The choice between the two radios hinges on features, price and desire for ease of use. Sangean offers Long wave reception, Kaito does not. Kaito has Single sideband mode (for Hams), Sangean does not. Humane alarm of Sangean is less "jarring". Sangean in MUCH easier to use/Manual is easy to understand. Kaito is cheaper but feels more solidly built. Sangean has rotary volume control, Kaito has up/down buttons. "batteries included" on Kaito (NiMH rechargeable).
Both are pretty amazing for their size!!!
Wasn't What I Expected, November 14, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got this radio November 9th, and am not pleased. The reception isn't that great, and the F.M. has too much override; where you hear the same station on adjacent frequencies. Unless it's a very strong station, you have to tune away from the nearby station to get anything. Sangean could've done better.
