Product Description Salomon Tech Amphibian Shoes blur the line between sandals and shoes. They protect your feet like shoes but drain water like a sandal. And the synthetic mesh upper and Kevlar laces won't absorb water so you don't have to carry around extra weight until your shoes dry. The Tech Amphibian was built for professional river guides, canyoneers and adventure racers who make frequent transitions between wet and dry environments. The adjustable, collapsible back folds out of the way when you need a slip on for a quick jaunt out of your tent in the middle of the night. They fit very well with neoprene socks for cold weather protection.

Not good for kayaking August 17, 2008 I bought these after reading reviews saying how good they are. While the shoe feels good to wear and I love the quick tie system and the option to collapse the heel, the buckle of the heel adjustment strap makes the shoe unusable for me. I bought them to use in kayaking. But when I place my feet on the foot pegs in the kayak, the side of each foot presses up against the side of the kayak and the buckle is in between my foot and the side of the kayak. For very short paddles, it might not be a problem, but for adventure races where the paddle can last several hours, I am left with a very painful area where my foot has been pressing against the buckle.... Not sure how it could be designed to prevent this, but I can't use this shoe for anything else...
My boyfriend's favorite shoes July 4, 2008 I bought these to replace my boyfriends old shoes. He loves them and wears them all the time.
good travel shoe November 2, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
took these shoes on a three week trip to Italy,Greece and Montenegro. lots of walking every day, had added a set of arch insoles(but i have to on most of my footware) needless to say no blisters and at the end of the day the ventelation proved it worth with dry socks, while with other footware a sock change during the day was often needed to keep my happy.
ideal shoes for sweaty feet. August 5, 2005 I found Salomon Tech Amphibian sandal shoe to be quite ideal for people with sweaty feet. With all those built-in vents around this footwear which can be used in water or on pavement with a nice cooling effect. This footwear managed to covered both side of the fence quite nicely. The real trick to wearing this footwear is how you adjust the back heel. The heel design is flexible so you can just "slip it on" like slider or used the heel to stablized the footwear on a regular hike. Adjusting and adapting that heal portion will directly determined the comfort level. Too loose and you might end up with blisters, too tight and you will have a sore tendons behind your ankles. It would be up to the individual wearer to determined what's best.
The footwear overall appears to be well designed and gear for comfort to individual needs. The shoe size ranged bit on the smaller size....I wear a size 10.5 normally but I needed a 11 for a comfortable fit with this footwear. I should also mention that my feet lies rather on the "wide" side but this shoe fitted me well (Salomon usually geared toward a more narrower foot shape but not with this one).
Only real problem I had with this footwear was the plastic vent covers which initially feel uncomfortable to your bare skin. I guess you have to wear them down a bit to break up the stiffness that can cause minor miscomfort.
But its a great footwear in water or pavement, good gripping soles and easy to put on and adjust. Its also quite lightweight so it can be an ideal "camping shoes" thanks to the flexible heel portion.
For anyone looking for a compromise footwear between a sandal and a shoe, this will work perfectly.
This shoe is a must!!! December 5, 2004 I have three pairs of them (two of this and one Pro Amphib) and still wearing first of them. Air ventilation is perfect for summer (no more stinky foot ;o))
Just enjoy them...easy to make slides (just put your foot in the shoe like going to slippers.
