 Rubber and wire problem December 5, 2008

I bought these and used them regularly for one winter. But by the next winter, I notice the rubber had been cut in half in several places where the rubber intersects with another rubber piece. -> X <-
I have a rough trail to walk to work everday so I think it's more about the stress I put on them then the quality of the product. They seem like they would hold up to regular icy walks on a normal sidewalk or road. But I was walking over rough rocky trails at an angle. I wouldn't advise buying them if the terrain is jagged with snow and ice. I'm going to try some of the other "cleat-type" slip ons for my next pair.

These things really work !! On ice, snow or anything in between ... I walk four miles each day on gravel, hilly roads and need good traction. Runners who want to go out when there's light snow or icy patches will also like them a lot.
I bought them for my husband who has had a back injury so that he wouldn't slip in icy weather but instead I put them on my running shoes when I went out during an ice storm and couldn't believe how good they were. (The pro style is the best with the front strap to keep them on securely.)
I'm hooked and I will repurchase as many times as necessary. They would be GREAT for the elderly so that they could "permanently" leave them on a pair of shoes to use anytime it's slippery outside the house.

They work well, it would be good to have the sizing info posted. I am a size 11 and the chart says I should be in a large, but they have a tendancy to slip off o fmy foot in the mud.

Item arrived quite quickly. The actual product is o.k. I have size 8 1/2 shoes and I think I should have gone with a larger size. Overall they work really well in icy conditions.

I bought the YakTrax grips a couple of months ago. I like them from the start, because I could notice a stark difference from where I had no tracktion on ice!
I use them mostly when I walk our dogs. They sometimes get excited at the sight of squirrels, and I want to avoid falling at all costs having an injured meniscus and having suffered from a pinched sciatic nerve in the past.
These are my caveats: If you have poor mobility YakTracks are not for you: It is hard to slip them on the shoe itself while its off your foot; you really need to wear the shoe and then slip them on. As other people have stated, the design seems subject to wear and tear, the basic structure of this item bein in rubber coiled by wires for traction. It doesn't take a scientist to know that the rubber will succumb to both temperature changes and to the rubbing of the coils under a person's weight.
But overall, at least for now, this is what I was looking for. And they hug the shoe, they are comfortable. I am happy.
