5 out of 5 stars All 3 boys love it!   November 15, 2008
Bought this last Christmas for my 1.5 year old and he loved it...he since still plays with it all the time and my 4 year old and my now 1 year old all play with it. And though I can see how inconvenient it would be if you lost a gear, but honestly, we've been lucky, so far :)

5 out of 5 stars Great inexpensive toy!   September 8, 2008
My 13 month old son loves to take the gears off and I love to put them back on! We first played with this at a friend's house, and it really kept his attention. When his first birthday rolled around, I knew I wanted to get this for him. I love that he can get his fingers 'caught' inbetween while the gears move and it doesn't pinch at all...he actually thinks it's funny! It's a great toy for interacting with your child, I highly recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars Fun toy...   September 1, 2008
My twin boys love gadgets so this toy is a favorite as they love watching the gears go and then taking some off to see what it does.

4 out of 5 stars Great Toy for kid but rough for Mom who like neat   August 22, 2008
Purchased this toy for 1 yr old nephew who loves it but organizes the gears into other locations (toilet, floor, etc). Great toy for kids but if the parent(s) is into neat, look for something else.

1 out of 5 stars Safe, but doesn't keep my 16 month old engaged   August 15, 2008

I'm not super impressed with this toy. It's nice because it's like a puzzle that comes to life after you put it together and the child can't really put pieces in the wrong place. You can also use it to teach colors and the gears do not hurt their little fingers.

There's a button you press at the bottom which makes the toy first light up and play a song, THEN the gears will turn. The problem for MY daughter is that she doesn't care about the song, she wants to see the gears turn. The song only takes about 10 seconds, but it's enough time for her to press the button again and again to try to get the gears to start (which only makes the song repeat, so it takes longer). She understands how it works, but she just wants to make the gears keep turning and isn't interested in waiting for the song to end each time. She usually leaves it for dead pretty quickly except for sometimes pushing the gears around in her stroller or carrying them in her purse.

Speaking of which, it's a pain to keep all those gears in one place! When she wants to play with it we have to track down all the gears that are usually strewn about the playroom and stuffed into other toys. If you are familiar with this age group, you know that ONE missing gear can cause some unnecessary anxiety. Not to mention that when they are laying upside down they hurt when you step on them.

I would skip it.
