Quality Harness But a Tricky Fit September 10, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I ordered a large version of this harness, after researching many travel harnesses available. My large whippet fit within the parameters for a large harness, since his neck/chest measurement was 18 and his girth was 26. I think it is a tricky fit for some breeds - especially those with a broad rib-cage and narrower chest - as one would find with many sighthounds. It arrived today and it is very well made and appears as though it would be comfortable if you have a dog with the appropriate body habitus for this type of harness. On Jack it was clownishly large and I was so disappointed. Returning items just is my nemesis!! But, I am returning it and I am going to try a medium, simply because I like the padding this harness provides for a muscular dog with negligible body fat. I might also buy a Watson's travel harness, which is comparable in strength rating and use of stainless hardware on pressure points. I'll compare the two and if they both fit, I will keep them, as I will then have a harness hooked up in both vehicles. Jack is a well-traveled dog!
Safety harness July 17, 2008 I purchased this safety harness hoping it would restrain my yellow lab mix. It worked nicely on our 400 mile trip until we reached our destination. She then somehow bit through one of the straps. I had it sewed back together and we did OK on the return trip. I think the problem might be the size. My dog is too big for a medium, but the large seems too big on her.
The dog stays put April 8, 2008 The reason I bought this item was because my dog was running all over the backseat and kept trying to get into the front seat when I drove. I can't believe it, but now he gets in the car, and waits for me to put his vest on. I think he loves it. I never have any trouble with him, and the bonus is if there is an accident, he will be protected.
Fantastic Product October 16, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We recently took a two day trip with our beloved hound-thing and two dachshunds. Our hound is thirteen and is no longer steady on his feet so I wanted a device to keep him in the backseat without restricting his movement much, while also restraining him quickly and safely if we had to stop suddenly. This was the perfect answer. He didn't mind the harness, it is padded so it didn't hurt him or cut into his chest and shoulders(he gets choked with a collar), he could change positions and sides of the seat during the eight hour drives, and all we had to do was unclip the harness from the strap attached to the seatbelt when we walked him. The fit was true to size for him. We also purchased two harnesses for the dachshunds. Because of their deep chests and long backs the small was too small and the medium was a bit problematic as well. We needed a slightly longer, narrower medium or a much longer, slightly wider small for our tiny but overweight, long-haired dachshund, and she was a bit warm wearing it (the weather didn't help, either), and the same was true for our dachshund that is not pancake shaped. Obviously, many items are not sized and shaped for dachshunds! We will certainly continue to use these harnesses. One thing you might want to keep in mind is the airbag in the front seat. We were concerned that if we held our dachshunds in the front seat that the airbag might cause them injury.
