Product Description The Koolatron Kargo Kooler utilizes a 3-amp thermoelectric module that cools its contents to 40-degrees F below the outside temperature. If you want your food to stay warm, to keep soft drinks from freezing for instance, it can also act as a warmer. It has a split lid/door, with a 12-volt cooling system in one of its sides so you can pack baggage around it tightly, and still be able to get at your food without unloading the whole trunk.
Amazon.com Review The Kargo Kooler is part of Koolatron's line of 12-volt coolers designed to plug into a car's cigarette lighter. Each cooler keeps your food cool without the use of ice. The really cool feature of the Kargo Kooler, though, is its versatility. With a compartmentalized interior and split lid/door, the unit looks more like a compact refrigerator than a cooler, with multiple stacking shelves and a top and bottom door. Even better, the split lid/door gives you access to the food inside even if the cooler is packed tightly in the trunk with a ton of luggage. The cooler's two dividers can be used in multiple positions--either as shelves (if the cooler is stored vertically, like a refrigerator), or as partitions (if it's stored horizontally, like a chest). To keep things cool, the 12-volt cooling system hums along on one side of the cooler, keeping the internal temperature 40 degrees F lower than the external temperature. Koolatron also sells a portable power pack that keeps the unit cool even when away from a vehicle. As an alternative, the cooler can also act as a warmer when you need to keep something heated. When sitting in chest position, the Kargo Kooler measures 20 by 14 by 16 inches (length by width by height). It holds up to 42 12-ounce soft-drink cans and weighs 14 pounds when empty. --Rivers Janssen

WORKED FOR ME June 9, 2008 Road trip to Detroit. Used it as mini fridge in the hotel room. 12 hrs hooked up to the car on my return. Stayed cool. Some water bottles actually froze.
Takes a few hours to cool down but as previously suggested placing at least room temperature items in will speed up cool down process.
Only snag was however to pay additonal for home adaptor. Should come with product. Otherwise 5 stars.
Cooler review May 13, 2008 I drive truck for a living and this cooler does a great job. I would highly recommend this cooler
Cools superbly, but check cooler lid covers/hinges closely for damage when unpacking April 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My Kargo Kooler arrived damaged in a dented box without any interior packing materials. The lid doors were warped and a little loose, a screw was missing from a hinge, the cheap plastic lid latch did not work properly, and I could not use this cooler vertically as a "refrigerator" because the heavy bottom door sagged badly. Perhaps attaching the heavy cooling unit to a lid door is a design flaw of this model.
The Kargo Kooler arrived a day before a 1600-mile road trip: I tested it en route to the Deep South in April as a chest cooler for exotic cheeses and a frozen pork roast, plugged into a socket in the cargo area of my Subaru Forester. I also splurged for the the optional AC adapter so I could plug it in at hotels. It cooled things superbly, despite lid problems. Yes, it may be a bit noisy in quiet office/home environments, but I did not notice its hum above road noise or the loud blasts of heating/cooling in highway hotel rooms.
My unit was obviously damaged from shipping, so I'm returning it to Amazon for a refund. Just check the lid covers and hinges very closely for damage and/or defects if you order this item.
I liked this enough to give Koolatron a second chance: I just ordered Koolatron's slightly smaller rolling mini-fridge model which may better suit my needs, has an adjustable thermostat, and should tuck away nicely and discreetly under the cargo area blind of my Subaru.
Helps you keep your cool.. April 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
..and maybe a little too cold. The latches are junk, the lock barely works. This sucker gets cold though, and hot too. Just be sure to check the size, it is big and I had a little trouble fitting it where I wanted too.
On Top of My List August 25, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was very impressed with this little refrigerator, my sister put one in her guest room and I found it so Comforting, A LUXURY for me, because I did not have to disturb anyone for a cool glass of juice or late night snack.
I decided then that I would get one for my Guest room too. I like to entertain and I think having this is definitely a courtesy to guests.
Highly recommended for this purpose.
