Very comfortable casual shoe, high quality comparable to Diesel and Adidas July 9, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I never heard of Helly Hansen and I don't "boat". A "Helly Hansen Hyrdo Power 2 Boat Shoe" seemed like something I would never in my life need or even encounter.
When this showed up while searching amazon for casual sneaker/shoes I was immediately drawn to the attractive modern style and excellent shade of dark blue.
This shoe covers all the fronts. It is plenty wide enough for a E/EE foot like a new balance, but has the updated stylings of a Puma or Steve Madden.
The designer also considered function heavily as the shoe is "form fitting" on the sole without being tight or having that dreaded "sock fit" many sneakers are moving towards. it is easily tightened for a snugger fit, and it retains the comfort and does not distort or become too tight in some places rather than others.
I can't speak to how this shoe performs when it comes to "Hydro power boating" but it certainly holds up well in heavy fog and walking on pavement or carpet. I would not use this as a running shoe, although you can run short distances comfortably in it.
The only downsides I can find are common for most shoes. After 10+ hours of continuous wear it feels good to take them off, what shoe doesn't? Most shoes I find get tired after 6+ hours.
Another possible downside is because this is a "boat" shoe the exterior sole has a lot of grip. If you tend to scuff your feet or have a drag footed "I'm so awesome" swagger you may find yourself getting caught on the floor or creating those squeak noises.
All in all I find this to be a great shoe that exceeds my expectations. I tend to wear loose fitting clothes and this shoe has a nice robust build that does not cause your feet to appear smaller than reality and it easily blends into a business casual type office dress code. It looks good with both shorts and pants and does not have wasteful accessories like the "sock fit" or velcro straps.
It also veers away from ugly giant tradmarks or stripes like on a New Balance (giant N) or Reebok (whatever that creepy looking stripe is)
It does have those small "HH"s at the toe so for those looking for 100% logo free shoes, this one doesn't quite fit the bill.
