Great, safe scooter!!!! August 10, 2008 my son got this for his 7th b'day and it is absolutely terrific! I wanted one with a seat because I thought that would be easier for him to maneuver than the ones where you can only stand. He asked for a lime green scooter and guses what? I found one on Amazon! I do most of my online shopping here, and its made by Schwinn which is a trusted name in bikes....it has a hand brake and you can easily stop it with your feet if your child isnt used to a hand brake. It is very easy to control and easy to keep steady...and Ive even ridden it with him so it will carry over 200 pounds...his dad and several others have ridden it with him too. I think we as adults love it just as much as he does!! So if you are worried about safety, this one is safe, easy to ride and you can get a matching helmet! ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET! I recommend this to anyone looking for a scooter.
Cool Ride! July 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought four of the scooters and we ride them all the time. They have replaced many of our short car rides. As campers, they have replaced our golf cart rentals. LOVE THEM!!!
Excellent except build quality July 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I added more details and deleted my old review. Well, here it is.
I bought this from wally world for 199. The model name is S500-SD, and it is a green 2008 model. As of today, I have returned my 3rd one of these. I couldn't find any more from near my location so I'll have to ride something else now.
Anyways, build quality is okay but it definitely is a low quality Chinese product. It is heavy steel and the welded joints were ugly on some, and some cleaner.
It makes a high tone wining (wine-) noise, so it gets peoples attention. Not that loud, but it gets louder if you don't oil the chains. I had to oil it with liquid silicon spray every week. But it is kind of quiet after lube. I also tried dry lube, but it only lasts like 2 days.
The motor or wheel doesn't freewheel, so it does have some drag when pushing it. This will cuase the brush wear all the time.
I weight 125 lbs, can climb hills fair on full throttle. I can ride my bicycle up the hill without standing up, but it will take some breath.
The scooter is slow on hills, but not that bad. The lead acid battery must be recharged as soon as possible, and it's not good to use more than 70% of the battery. The more you use up at once, the less cycle you'll have, especially worst if you use up more.
The brake is a strip break in a drum, not a disc brake. It didn't work well when I first got this, but after couple days using the brake, they are starting to work better. But having to rely on only one brake is scary at times.
I didn't attach the seat, so there is a big hole on the board. I wish there was a cover or something.
Because the board isn't sealing well, there are always some dirt that goes in to the battery pack area. I wish they used a better design.
I tried to call tech support to Currie tech, these days they answer their phone really quickly, even on Mondays.
Reason for returning: 1st one: brake problem 2nd one: missing seat screw 3rd one: bent front fork
Love it! July 10, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was purchased by my 9 year old daughter with her savings after her 11 year old brother received one for his birthday. They BOTH love their scooters and my husband and I have fun riding them around as well! The charge is just fine and the speed is perfect. They are made very durable and there's not one thing I can complain about. The kids ride them everyday and just throw them on the charge when they're done so they're always ready. We have not run out of battery time at all. This is a fantastic toy for all to enjoy.
